A bombed-out Islamic State improvised munitions factory discovered by UNMAS while conducting an area survey in west Mosul, Iraq.
Mosul, Iraq – While conducting an area site survey in West Mosul, UNMAS-funded teams discovered an abandoned improvised munitions factory from the recent conflict with ISIL. This facility is littered with explosive hazards and was severely damaged during the conflict. An estimated 1,000 mortars of different calibers, IEDs, fuses and at least three unexploded bomb entry holes in the building were observed. Teams recently began clearance operations and have so far recovered an array of explosive hazards, including a suicide belt. Thanks to its generous donors, UNMAS Iraq provides explosive hazard management solutions.
